25 North Lex is a 500-unit residential project just a short walk from the White Plains train station in Westchester County, NY. The project is posed to create one of the densest developments in the city of White Plains. It includes two perpendicular volumes that intersect one another on a full block site. The taller of the two towers, at 25-stories, runs parallel with North Lexington Avenue, as well as the White Plains train station, a couple of blocks away. This tower is clad in glass and light metal panels, folded in a chevon pattern to give the facade a sense of depth. The two narrow ends of the tower are all-glass, and will offer these units great views to north and south. The southernmost face of the building marks the residential entrance at the corner of Hamilton and North Lexington.
The shorter volume is designed to sit atop a parking podium that includes 17,000 sq. ft. of retail on Hamilton and Ferris Avenues. The podium is clad in folded metal panels, suggesting a sense of movement to those passing to and from the train station. The panels peel up on the southwest corner to reveal a double height space, reaffirming the connection between the pedestrian corridor on Hamilton Avenue and the train station. Above the podium, the second tower stands 16-stories, and pierces through the taller one to the east. This volume is also clad in metal panels which visually tie it to the podium below. The narrow ends of this tower are also all-glass, creating enormous urban windows to downtown White Plains.
My role from concept to construction documentation consisted of designing and coordinating the exterior envelope including conceptual massing exercises, Skin explorations, material studies and renderings, coordination of exterior envelope systems with consultants and construction documentation.
